Asanadiganam kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine for obesity and hyperlipidemia. It can be used in any disease where fat metabolism is impaired. It is beneficial in reducing body weight and hyperlipidemia.

Benefits of Asanadiganam kashayam

It is used to treat many diseases with ama in abdomen or all over the body. It reverses the pathology of many auto-immune diseases if used in the early stage of disease pathology.

It is beneficial in many types of chronic skin diseases including psoriasis and vitiligo. It reduces itching, swelling and whitish discharge from the skin lesions.

As almost all drugs are tikta rasa and with rooksha property, this formulation does Rookshana in the body and helps to absorb unwanted kleda (moisture content) and regulates water and electrolyte balance. It is useful in some cases of swelling and water retention, too.

It helps reduce obesity, hyperlipidemia, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.

It works as anthelmintic. Also, it is beneficial in Kapha-dominant anemia.

It is used in urinary disorders and diabetic persons.

Ingredients of Asanadiganam kashayam

 

Indian kino tree Asana Pterocarpus marsupium Roxb.

 

It is used as a cooling external application for headache and inflammations on skin and joints. It is antipyretic, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac. It is used in the treatment of ulcers and also in mental aberrations.

Indian chariot tree Tinisha Ougenia dalbergioides Benth.

 

It is used in the treatment of vitiligo, skin diseases, diabetes, anaemia, non-healing wounds, and ulcers. It is anthelmintic, too. Used in diarrhoea and burning sensation.

 

Himalayan birch Bhoorja Betula utilis

 

It is used in wound healing, earache, diarrhoea, bleeding disorders etc.

It reduces fat and cholesterol levels in the body.

 

Arjun tree Swetavaaha Terminalia arjuna.W.&A.

 

It is an anti-oxidant, hypotensive, anti-atherogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, anti-mutagenic, and gastroprotective. It is used in combination medicines for reducing Hypertension.

 

Indian beech tree Prakeerya Pongamia glabra.Vent./Pongamia pinnata

 

It has anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and wound-healing properties.

 

Cutch tree Khadira Acacia catechu

White thorn Kadara Acacia polyacantha Will.

 

It is an anti-staphylococcal medicine. It is used in swelling & oedema in arthritis and rheumatism. It is beneficial in nasopharyngeal infections, dysentery and diarrhoea.

 

Indian madder Bhandi Rubia cordifolia L.

 

It is a blood purifier. Used in the treatments of almost all skin diseases. It improves complexion. It enhances the liver functions.  Beneficial in diarrhoea and eye diseases.

 

Indian rosewood Simsapa Dalbergia sissoo.Roxb.

 

It is beneficial in obesity and deranged metabolism. It corrects cholesterol and lipid levels. It is useful in worm infestations, pain and burning sensation during urination, skin diseases, vitiligo, oedema, hiccups, vomiting, diarrhoea and allergic rhinitis.

Teak Saaka Tectona grandis.Linn.

 

It has cooling property. It is a laxative. It is useful in the treatment of piles, leukoderma, bronchitis and dysentery.

 

Sal tree Saala Shorea robusta Gaertn.f.

 

It is used in the treatment of piles, leucorrhoea, gonorrhoea, skin diseases, ulcers, wounds, diarrhoea, dysentery, burning sensation etc

 

Betel palm Kramuka Areca catechu Linn.

 

It is an astringent and stimulant. It relieves hunger and abdominal discomfort. It kills and expels intestinal worms and parasites. It has diuretic and laxative properties.

 

Conessi Kalinga Holarrhena antidysentrica. Wall.

 

It has been used in bleeding piles, diarrhoea, eczema, fever and colic.  It is beneficial in amoebic dysentery and many other gastro-intestinal disorders.

 

Axle wood tree Dhava Anogeissus latifolia (DC)Wallich ex Guill.&Perr.

 

Root is pungent, acrid, sweet, cooling; improves both taste and appetite, removes kapha and vata useful in anaemia, urinary discharges, piles applied in skin diseases, and erysipelas –The juice of the leaves is given in purulent discharges from the ear. Bark is bitter, astringent to the bowels useful in liver complaints, chronic diarrhoea, and ophthalmic inflammatory conditions.

 

Black murdah Chagakarna Terminalia crenulata ROTH.

 

It has anti-bacterial properties.

Indian gurjan Aswakarna Dipterocarpus turbinatus Gaertn.f.

 

It is useful in abscesses, diseases of vagina and urinary tract in women, bleeding disorders, skin diseases, fever, blisters&pustues, pruritus, headache, anemia and deafness.

 

Details of the manufacturing of Asanadiganam kashayam

As already discussed, Asanadiganam kashayam has 23 ingredients.

All these ingredients should be washed well and dried up in shade.

Take equal quantity of all ingredients in dried & crushed form in an earthen pot. Now add 16 times clean water into it. Make it boil and then cook in the open vessel with low fire. Reduce the quantity into one by eighth of the initial quantity. Make sure to mix it in between with a wooden ladle. Also, the fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the water. Once the quantity is reduced to one by eighth of the initial amount of water, remove the vessel from the fire. Squeeze and drain through a clean white cloth. Collect the decoction in a clean vessel and discard the solid waste. Drink the mild warm decoction.

 

Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga margas of Asanadiganam kashayam

Asanadiganam kashayam is Kapha-Pittahara and rookshana.

It acts on bahya, madhyama and antarrogamargas

 

Dosage and Usage of Asanadiganam kashayam

Dosage: Two Pala ( 120 ml) This is the dosage of freshly prepared decoction. In the market, we are getting concentrated qwath and the dosage is 15 ml concentrated kashayam mixed with 45ml of boiled water twice daily before the food. Tablets are also available and the dosage is two tablets twice daily before the food.

Usage:

Kashayam is advised to take in empty stomach, once the ingested food is digested well and aahaararasa is formed well.

Usage of kashayam with prescribed prakshepadravyas according to the condition of disease and the patient gives the best results mostly.

 Exercises and Yoga.

As Asanadiganam kashayam targets mainly drying up excess moisture and fat tissues, following regular exercises and specific yoga asanas like suryanamaskra, pavanamuktasana, vajrasana, bhujangasana etc for whole-body stretching and balance are recommended.

Regular exercise helps improve the bioavailability of the medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.

Recommended diet and behaviour for Asanadi Gana Kashayam

Diet:

  • To be avoided

Heavy meals and difficult to digest foods – cause indigestion.

Food with excess oil and fat.

Sweet items like sugar, jaggery, etc.

junk foods- cause disturbance in digestion and reduces the bioavailability of the medicine

carbonated drinks – makes the stomach more acidic and disturbed digestion

refrigerated and frozen foods – causes weak and sluggish digestion by weakening agni (digestive fire)

curd – causes vidaaha and thereby many other diseases

Light meals and easily digestible foods

Green gram, soups, buttermilk boiled with turmeric, ginger and curry leaves, honey.

freshly cooked and warm food processed with cumin seeds, ginger, black pepper, ajwain etc

Eat food only when you are hungry. Avoid over-eating

Behaviour for Asanadi Gana Kashayam:

Avoid sitting continuously for a long time. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle.

Better to avoid exposure to excessive sunlight wind rain or dust.

Maintain a regular food and sleep schedule.

Avoid using air conditioner for long time. Let the body sweat.
