Varanadi kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine for many diseases due to obstruction in channels. It is effective from ovarian cyst to hypertension.
Benefits of Varanadi kashayam
It liquifies the waste products accumulated in channels. It helps lower bad cholesterol and hyperlipidaemia.
It is used in almost all the diseases of head including sinusitis, migraine, nasal polyps, ear infections, deafness and tumours in the brain.
It improves the digestive fire. It is useful in indigestion, low appetite, fatigue and laziness, heaviness of the body, excessive and uncontrolled sleep etc. Many digestive problems like distension and pain of abdomen, bloating and belching, sluggish digestion etc are cleared with this formulation.
As it is Kaphahara it is used in many diseases of head as it is the seat of Kapha. In many types of headache, sinusitis, nasal polyps and growths it is found beneficial.
It absorbs the excess moisture in body and reduce swelling. It is used to treat visceral oedema and abscesses inside the and outside the body. It is used to treat ovarian cysts, uterine growths, and other diseases in female reproductive system.

Details of the manufacturing
As already discussed, Varanadi kashayam has 16 ingredients in equal parts.
All the ingredients should be washed well and dried up in shade.
Take all the ingredients in crushed form in an earthen pot. Now add 16 times clean water into it. Make it boil and then cook in the open vessel with low fire. Reduce the quantity into one by eighth of the initial quantity. Make sure to mix it in between with a ladle. Also, the fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the water. Once the quantity is reduced to one by eighth of the initial amount of water, remove the vessel from the fire. Squeeze and drain through a clean white cloth. Collect the decoction in a clean vessel and discard the solid waste. Drink the mild warm decoction.

Dosage and Usage of Varanadi kashayam
Dosage: two Pala.
Usage:
Kashayam is advised to take in empty stomach, once the ingested food is digested well and aahaararasa is formed well.
Usage of kashayam with prescribed prakshepadravyas according to the condition of disease and the patient gives the best results mostly.
As Varanadi combination is mentioned as a Gana, it can be used as any Kalpana (preparation) like kashaya, choorna,arishta, asava, ghrita or taila. Most famous and widely used formulation is Varanadi kashayam and ghrutam.
Exercises and Yoga.
As Varanadi kashayam targets mainly removing obstructions in channels, regular stretching and mild cardio exercises are advised. Also, specific yogacharya including naadisuddhi pranayama, bhujangaasana, pavanamuktasana is recommended.
Regular exercise helps improve the bioavailability of the medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.
Yoga can maintain harmony within the body and with the surrounding system.
