Ayurvedic Treatment for ALLERGY PET

Ayurvedic Treatment for ALLERGY PET is based on the principle of supporting the digestive system for treating allergies. As per the Ayurvedic concept, allergies are manifested due to the impairment of digestion. When an allergic reaction occurs against the proteins found in an animal’s skin cells, saliva, or urine, then it can be said as a pet allergy. Here the immune system produces certain chemicals like histamines when exposed to allergens produced by a pet which causes allergic responses similar to hay fever.

Causes

Pet allergy is usually triggered when the body becomes exposed to the dead flakes of skin (dander) a pet sheds. Any animal with fur can be a source of pet allergy. Pet allergies are most commonly associated with cats and dogs because they are commonly pampered pet animals.

Allergens are found in skin cells the animals shed (dander), as well as in their saliva, urine, sweat, and on their fur. Dander or animal shed is a major problem because it is minute and can remain in the atmosphere for a longer period of time with the slightest bit of air circulation and also get collected upholstered furniture and sticks to your clothes. Rodent pets like mice, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs rabbits, and pet birds also produce allergens.

Pathophysiology

In allergic reactions when the immune system first exposed to an allergen, it produces a type of antibody called immunoglobulin E (IgE) and this IgE binds to basophils, a type of white blood cells in the bloodstream, and to a similar type of cell called mast cells in the tissues. Here the allergic reaction is triggered by the proteins in the skin cells like allergens of pets.

Diagnosis

  • Allergic reactions can be diagnosed by assessing the history of illness along with signs and symptoms. The incidence of contact with pet animals leads to the diagnosis. Diagnosis can be confirmed by,
  • Skin test
  • Blood test – Specific IgE (radioallergosorbent test (RAST) or ImmunoCAP testing)

Treatments

The initial step in treating allergy is avoiding allergen exposure that is to avoid contact with the pets. High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) cleaners run continuously in a bedroom or living room can reduce allergen levels over time. Medications include,

  • Medications include those which can reduce the immune system reactions and ease the symptoms.
  • Nasal sprays, antihistamines, and bronchodilators can help relieve symptoms.
  • Immunotherapy is considered if the allergy is severe.
  • Emergency cases epinephrine
