Neelithulasyadi kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine for the poisonous spider bite and chronic skin diseases. It is one of the best practically used medicine against poisonous bites in Kerala visha chikithsa.

Benefits of Neelithulasyadi kashayam.

It is very effective in almost all kinds of poisonous bites, especially in spider bites and rat bites.

It can be used in various kinds of chronic skin diseases. It is beneficial in conditions like inflammation of joints with skin rashes especially redness, swelling, burning sensation, bluish or black discoloration, and fever.

It is beneficial in wounds and skin rashes associated with varicose veins and diabetes.

It is used to treat herpes zoster. It works as a hepato-protective formulation.

It is used to reduce the complications in small pox, chicken pox, measles etc. This combination makes the healing process faster in such diseases.

Ingredients of Neelithulasyadi kashayam 

Indian indigo Neeli Indigofera tinctoria

 It is a mild laxative. It can be used in the treatment of splenomegaly, ascites, fever, poisons, rheumatoid arthritis, pain & distention of the abdomen, rheumatic fever, intestinal parasites, and worms. It may cause mild giddiness & fainting when taken not supervised. It is good for hair growth. 

Holy basil Thulasi Ocimum sanctum Linn.

 It is an aromatic herb famous for its effect on respiratory tract disorders. It can be used in the treatment of cough, allergic rhinitis, viral fevers, malaria, fever, diarrhoea, dysentery, skin diseases, arthritis, eye diseases, acne, insect bites, headache & sinusitis. 

Chinese chaste tree Nirgundi Vitex negundo L.

 It has anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic, expectorant, tranquilizer, anti-spasmodic, rejuvenating, anti-arthritic, anti-fungal, anti-hyperglycaemic, and antipyretic properties. It is used in rheumatism, respiratory disorders, and many inflammatory skin diseases.

Garlic Lasuna Allium sativum L.

It is used for several conditions linked to the circulatory system and heart, including atherosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, coronary heart disease, and hypertension. It has anti-tumor, anti-microbial, and anti-diabetic actions.

 VYOSHA/THRIKATU

It is a group of three drugs namely,

Trikatu Churna helps follow health conditions.[36]

  • Constipation with mucous or sticky stool.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Indigestion.
  • Gas or flatulence.
  • Bloating.
  • Abdominal distension.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Common cold (acute phase during running nose).
  • Cough with thin white phlegm.
  • Asthma (chest congestion due to phlegm).
  • Weight loss (obesity).
  • Body aches with feeling of heaviness in the body.
  • High cholesterol levels.
  • Atherosclerosis.
  • High blood pressure due to hypercholesterolemia
 Dried ginger Sunthi Zingiber officinalis

It is unctuous and hot in potency with a pungent taste but becomes sweet after digestion. It is an aphrodisiac and balances Vata and Kapha.

It improves the ability to taste and promotes digestion. Relieves cough cold and other respiratory problems. It is not a laxative, rather causes constipation. 

Black pepper Maricha Piper nigrum L.

 Black Pepper is extremely useful for respiratory disorders and asthma. In conditions like hoarse voice, dental caries, in removing bad breadth (halitosis), the gargling of Black Pepper Powder along with salt and warm water may be used. Black pepper is also used in case of Heavy diets as it aids digestion. Black pepper is also used in the weakness and loosening of the anal sphincter especially in case of piles. For Headache and migraine, nasal drops of Black pepper powder prepared in milk is used. It helps to remove the chronic headache. The same preparation can also be used as local application on fore head in the form of paste. Black pepper reduces itching and discharge through the lesions when used in the form of local application on skin disorders. 

Long pepper Pippali Piper longum

It has carminative action and may be used as appetizer. The fruit and root of Pippali are used in the form of powder to treat fever, diarrhoea, piles, cough, hiccough, asthma, hoarseness of voice, flatulence, colic, vomiting, acid gastritis, oedema, diseases of mouth, eye diseases, diseases of semen, diseases of women, jaundice, and earache.

Pippali mixed with honey alleviates cough, dyspnoea, fever splenomegaly, and hiccough.

Indian ginseng Ashwagandha Withania somnifera

The plant has been used as an aphrodisiac, liver tonic, anti-inflammatory agent, and more recently to treat asthma, ulcers, insomnia, and senile dementia. Clinical trials and animal research support the use of ashwagandha for anxiety, cognitive and neurological disorders, inflammation, and Parkinson’s disease. 

Indian sandalwood Chandana Santalum album

It is famous for its anti-tumour and anti-cancerous properties. It has a very expensive essential oil made from it, makes it famous in the cosmetic industry. It is an anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-proliferative agent. It is beneficial for treatment of acne, psoriasis, eczema, common warts and molluscum contagiosum. 

Liquorice Madhuka Glycyrrhiza glabra L.

 It has anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-malarial, anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-hyperglycaemic and hepato-protective properties.

 It is useful in neurological, psychological and digestive disorders. It calms mind, strengthens nerves and prevents convulsions. It is used in the treatment of insomnia, epilepsy and paralysis. It has anti-inflammatory properties by which it is beneficial in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It is a carminative and anti-spasmodic. So, it is used in abdominal pain, flatulence, bloating, loss of appetite and indigestion. It improves the circulatory system and reduces High blood pressure. It is an ingredient in many ayurvedic anti-hypertensive formulations.

Indian costus root Kushtha Saussurea lappa

 It is a carminative, aphrodisiac, anthelmintic, and tonic. It stimulates the brain. It is used in the diseases of liver and kidney. It is also useful in the treatment of deafness, headache, paralysis, asthma, cough, chronic fever, inflammation, and ophthalmic conditions.

Indian sarsaparilla Sariba Hemidesmus indicus (L.) SCHULT

It is a coolant and a potent detoxifier. It is demulcent, alterative, astringent, diaphoretic, diuretic, tonic, anti-pyretic, and blood purifier. It is used in leprosy, other skin diseases, fever, asthma, bronchitis, syphilis, pruritus, diseases of the urinary tract, and leucorrhoea. 

Indian snakeroot/birthwort Eswaramooli Aristolochia indica

 It is a stimulant and tonic. It has aphrodisiac, anthelmintic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also an appetiser. It is used in many skin inflammations, itching, leukoderma, male infertility, snake bites, and post-delivery infections.

Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga margas.

Neelithulasyadi kashayam is thridoshahara especially kapha vatha hara, Raktha prasadana and srothosodhana.

It acts on both aabhyantara and bahya rogamargas 

Dosage and Usage of Neelithulasyadi kashayam

Exercises and Yoga.

Neelithulasyadi kashayam is used in chronic skin diseases and complications after poisonous bite. Stress and skin diseases are closely related. So, patient should practice mind relaxing exercises. So specific yogacharya including nadisuddhi pranayama, savasana Ardha- Pathmasana, Balasana, Veerasana, nadeesudhi, bhujangasana etc is recommended.

Regular exercise helps improve bioavailability of the medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.

Yoga can maintain harmony within the body and with the surrounding system.
